This is a low-key event: No formal activities, no vendors. This is all about a fun day in the beautiful Mt Hood National Forest with good friends, wonderful views, some raffle prizes, and some geocaching on your own.
Activities
Attend this event and you will receive a commemorative GC17 Patch plus your very own bear bell!
Socialize and sign the log.
Those that are able may join us for a hike in the beautiful Mt Hood National Forest and see some great views of Mt Hood. We will hike to GC17 Geocache 7/21/00, one of Oregon’s Original caches...and the view is awesome!
If you chose to hike, please dress appropriately and be prepared for a 2.5 terrain hike, and bring food, water and other essentials.
Take a 2nd hike and find GC12 5/12/2000 and get another notch on your fizzy belt. Find Chanterelle GC4KW0X along the way.
Take a side trip on your own to GCGV0P Original Stash Tribute Plaque—the birthplace of Geocaching!
Find some of Oregon’s favorite caches in the area. Find caches along the route to and from the event. Check the Bookmark lists.

Directions:
Via Sandy, OR: From the town of Sandy, head east on Hwy 26 for 2.2 miles. Take a slight right onto SE Firwood Rd at the gas station on the corner (last chance for gas & bathrooms—N45 22.639 W 122 13.535). Stay on Firwood Rd for 2.6 miles. Take a sharp left onto SE Wildcat Mountain Rd. As you follow this road for 9.5 miles, it then becomes NF-36 and then eventually NF-3626. Turn right onto NF-105 just past GC15V8K and continue for 0.8 miles to the parking/trailhead for GC17 N 45 18.219 W 122 03.956
From the South: OR Highway 224 (Clackamas Highway ) (last chance gas & bathrooms N 45 21.490 W 122 21.520) to SE Wildcat Mountain Drive. Head towards GC15V8K—1217's Front Door. As you follow this road for 9.5 miles, it then becomes NF-36 and then eventually NF-3626. Turn right onto NF-105 just past GC15V8K and continue for 0.8 miles to the parking/trailhead for GC17 N 45 18.219 W 122 03.956
Continue down the road till it dead ends. If you look in the direction the road was going (south) you will see an old gravel pit.

Dogs: Dogs are allowed on the trail, but keep them on a short leash at all times for the courtesy and safety of others.
Services: NONE...no bathrooms no food, no water, no gas. Bring your own! .

Hazards: You should not encounter any scary flora or fauna. The trails are free of blackberry, stinging nettle, and devil's club (we can't say the same if you bushwhack). We don't have poison oak/ivy/sumac in the mountains in this area. There are no poisonous snakes or spiders in Western Oregon ( watch out for Eastern Oregon though). We do have wasps - be careful where you put your hands. We also have coyotes, cougars, and bears - oh my! - as well as skunks, elk, and deer, but you are not likely to see them during the day, especially with all these people. Watch out for Sasquatch, though!
