To find this cache we need to take a virtual walk and visit some of the historic sites of Hucknall.
A good place to start would be the Market Place which holds the Library and the famous St Mary Magdalene Church where Lord Byron is Buried as well as the famous boxer Ben Caunt a 19th-century English bare-knuckle boxer who became the "heavyweight" boxing champion known as the "Torkard Giant" and "Big Ben".
From here we will walk to our furthest point from the town centre and visit Eric Coates Birthplace (C). Eric Coates was an English composer of light music and a viola player. Coates is well known for his contribution to the film score for The Dam Busters.
Walking back to town along the Watnall Road we approach the Baptist Church (D) featuring twin towers and the original balcony, further along Watnall Road we reach The Colliery Houses (E) built in 1874. The mining company built these substantial three-storey houses with large cellars and impressive facades using black brick decoration above the doors and windows and decorative brickwork below the gutters, for its employees, in 1874. Each house was originally supplied with water from taps connected to wells along the street frontage.
Time for a break now. Lets visit The Chequers Inn (B) constructed in 1750. In 1832, the Chequers was fully licensed under John Price (White) and was a traditional ale house. These days the PH is very different.
Fully refreshed we continue down High Street and pass the newly refurbished Byron Cinema and bingo hall. The cinema first opened in 1936 with a single screen and showed The Littlest Rebel featuring Shirley Temple. Under new management in 1967, the building was split into two sections. The stalls downstairs were turned into a bingo hall and the balcony upstairs remained as a 400-seater cinema.
No time to take in a film today so we continue down the road to One of the oldest cottages in Hucknall (A) where delicate shawls were once made. This area has recently undergone development allowing for a new road and landscaping and a new Public House.
A short stroll down the road and we reach our final destination the Miners Statue (F) the tallest statue in Nottinghamshire, which pays tribute to the lost miners of Hucknall and Linby Colleries.
