Swyre Head Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Gary & Jane: We checked the cache today and the log book and most of the contents had been taken again so we've decided to call it a day. A sad day as it's one of our oldest caches, just coming up to its 13th birthday! Thanks to everyone who visited.

Geocache Description:

This easy 3-stage multi-cache will take you on a 2 mile circular walk to Swyre Head, the highest point of the Purbecks. With a relative height of 150m, Swyre Head just qualifies as a Marilyn. The views from here are breathtaking.

The tower in the photo is Clavell Tower, which until recently was in danger of falling into the sea, being only 2 metres from the cliff edge. In 2006 the Landmark Trust dismantled and repositioned it 25 metres inland, and the tower is now available to hire for holidays.

Free parking is available at the car park below. The cache has been designed to give a 2 mile circular walk from here.

To find the coordinates of the cache you need to visit the following three locations (in order) and collect some information at each.

Stage 1: Sign
N 50° 36.775 W 002° 05.226
How many words are on the sign to the farm? Answer = a

Stage 2: Gate
N 50° 36.604 W 002° 05.925
How many vowels are in the two words carved in the gate? Answer = b

Stage 3: Stone Bench
N 50° 36.305 W 002° 05.653
In what year was John Douglas Hamilton born? Answer = 1cde

Using this information the cache is at N 50° 36.a0c W 002° 05.dbe.

The checksum of all the digits in the final coordinates is 46.

The cache is a 5½ litre lock & lock box and was last restocked on 12 April 2015. Please trade fairly. All our trade items are new and cost around £1 each. We'd appreciate it if you could mention what you swop in your online log.

If you're after a pub lunch we can recommend the Scott Arms at Kingston which has a garden with fantastic views of Corfe Castle and beyond. You'll pass the pub on the way to the car park.
