El poblat de s’Illot és un dels jaciments més importants de la cultura talaiòtica i posttalaiòtica (850-123 AC), tant per la seva varietat monumental, com per la seva complexa i dilatada evolució històrica. Està format per diferents conjunts en els quals es localitzen edificis comunals al voltant dels quals s’hi construïren les cases on vivia la comunitat. Conserva un extens tram de muralla que, originalment, devia envoltar la totalitat del poblat.

El centre de visitants del poblat talaiòtic de s’Illot introdueix i complementa la visita al jaciment i pretén endinsar el visitant dins el món de la prehistòria i de la cultura talaiòtica, donant-li a conèixer qui eren, com vivien, els costums i altres característiques dels pobladors de Mallorca en aquesta època.

Die talaiotische Siedlung von S’Illot (mallorquinisch Poblat talaiòtic de s’Illot) ist eine archäologische Ausgrabungsstätte einer der bronzezeitlichen Talaiot-Kultur (auch Talayot-Kultur) zugerechneten Siedlung auf Mallorca. Sie befindet sich an der Ostküste der Insel auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Sant Llorenç des Cardassar in der Region (Comarca) Llevant. Das genaue Alter der Siedlung ist nicht bekannt, die ältesten Fundstücke stammen jedoch aus der Zeit um 1200 v. Chr.

Der Ort S’Illot ist eine Küstensiedlung an der Cala Moreia, einer kleinen ostmallorquinischen Meeresbucht, und liegt zwischen den Siedlungen Sa Coma im Norden und Cala Morlanda an der gleichnamigen südlich anschließenden Bucht Cala Morlanda. Die drei als Touristen-Orte angelegten Siedlungen direkt am Meer gehen jeweils ohne sichtbare Grenze ineinander über. S’Illot wird dabei durch die Gemeindegrenze am Torrent de Ca n’Amer, einem Sturzbach (Torrent), zwischen den Gemeinden Sant Llorenç des Cardassar und Manacor geteilt und durch beide getrennt verwaltet.

Die prähistorischen Reste der talaiotischen Siedlung von S’Illot befinden sich etwa 100 Meter nordöstlich des Torrent de Ca n’Amer, innerhalb des Siedlungsteils von S’Illot, der zu Sant Llorenç des Cardassar gehört. Die vollständig durch die Bauten des Touristen-Ortes umschlossene Ausgrabungsstätte hat eine Ausdehnung von circa 8000 m² und liegt so bummelig 100 Meter entfernt von der Küste der Cala Moreia. Begrenzt wird das Areal durch die Straßen Carrer Llebeig, Carrer Gregal und Carrer Rosa dels Vents. Die Straße, die S’Illot mit dem Inselinneren Richtung Son Carrió und der Küstenstraße MA-4023 verbindet, die namentlich unbenannte MA-4021, endet direkt an der Ausgrabungsstätte. Das Gelände ist nicht umzäunt und daher frei zugänglich. Westlich angrenzend in der Carrer de Llebeig befindet sich ein Besucherzentrum, in dem Informationen zur Geschichte des talaiotischen Dorfes vermittelt werden.

Poblat Talaiotic de S'Illot-The prehistoric town of S'Illot can be described as a Talayotic settlement encircled by walls located only a few metres from the sea. The settlement's terrain is almost plain, the flat bay offers easy and convenient access to the sea. In former times, this area was marshland. From an architectonic point of view, the site comprises a circular talayot with an outbuilding in the northwest part as well as an enclosing wall including approximately thirty different rooms.

The history of the talayotic culture

The most important feature of this period is the talaiot, which gave the culture its name. Talaiots are truncated conical-shaped or pyramidal towers, with walls about two metres thick, consisting of upstanding, mighty and crude stone blocks on the exterior. The integration of new construction shapes buildings with square and circular ground plans and porticoed rooms spelled the end of the Talayotic building style.
