Mount Mitchell State Park
One of those places that stand apart from the ordinary, Mount Mitchell’s dramatic summit is the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet and was inspiration for one of the nation’s first state parks. From its easily accessible observation deck, the spruce-fir forest of Mount Mitchell State Park leads the eye to unmatched views. A museum explains the mountain’s cultural and natural history, and its trail network allows visitors to explore up close, offering short hikes near the summit and challenging treks leading to adjacent wilderness areas. - Mt Mitchell on NCPARKS.GOV
We Eastern and Coastal Cachers are happy to have Geowoodstack XV in the NC Mountains and MANY of us will be traveling and caching our way west. We will begin at 10:00 am and end at 1:30pm on Wednesday, May 24th to allow plenty of time to travel to the 4:00 Event.
Because of limited parking on top of the mountain, the event will be set up “open house” style - ascend, sign the log, say hi to old and new friends, explore the mountain, and head back down so others can come up after you. Folks will be gathering in the mountain’s restaurant lounge - no purchase necessary. We will begin at 10:00 am and end at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, May 24th to allow plenty of time to travel to other events and activities.
Parking is very limited and car-pooling in encouraged.
Please plan to ascend to the top parking lot and become acquainted with fellow cachers. The caching friends we make along the trails is our favorite element of geocaching. Plan to share caching adventures and advice for caching the NC Mountains. The vista makes a perfect backdrop for selfies and group pictures. We will have a few games to break the ice and build teams.
NOTHING COULD BE FINER THAN TO CACHE IN NORTH CAROLINA! AGAIN!!!
