Geocachers are used to putting things “in the Dark”. For those who gather with us on August 21st, 2017 at the Kelly Station Park the festivities will start at 9:00 AM CDT and continue through 10:00 AM CDT. All are welcome to remain for the eclipse which starts at 11:56:32AM (you guessed it - CDT), at "1:30 o'clock" on the sun's disk with Totality starting at 1:24:39PM (CDT – yet again) and continuing for 2m 40s. Or for those of you used to KMS measurements – 2m 40s.
There will be special 'Greatest Totality on Earth' pins for first 250 attendees who register, special Event Certificates which can be emailed to other registrants. There will be drawings for a small quantity of Eclipse glasses and Geocaching-related items [our Legal Staff informs us that you "...must be present to win..."].
We hope that this will be the most fun you can have in the dark...well, at least when Geocaching. There will be a Free Festival nearby celebrating the Little Green Men "landing" in Kelly in 1955 after the event, so that can be enjoyed if you wish (bow with flourish and full-scrape)!
At the end of Totality, we will lead a stirring rendition of ‘Here Comes The Sun’ as the light waxes –
Due to the International attraction of the area, anywhere that can take cars for parking is charging during this weekend. At Kelly Station Park, parking will be $5 - however, you can move your car as often as you wish (and can get a 'First-Come-First-Serve' Weekend certificate as well). It is strongly suggested that you a) Car Pool, b) Come early, stay late, and c) Have An Exit Strategy!! There will be many (manymanymanymanymany - as in from ALL Over The World MANY!) people trying to use the same roads at the same time.
That being said - how many times can you have an Event at an Eclipse, Total, Sun, Thereof? Please come! We not only love Geocachers - We ARE Geocachers!
