Houston Raceway Park was home to some of the greatest races in drag racing history. Built in 1988, it is Houston’s only major motor sports venue! This popular raceway is owned by Baytown's very own Angel brothers. In the beginning it was just a quarter-mile drag strip sporting a three-story tower building with a lot of space and VIP suites to offer spectators. It later expanded to hosting some of the most intense races in the nation. Sprint car races, fancy car shows, and intense drag racing is what goes down at Royal Purple. This raceway once hosted the NHRA SpringNationals every year as well as legal street racing every Friday night. It was sold to develop warehouses.
