Proprio al centro del paese di Agnadello si erge una piccola chiesetta del 1500: anticamente era la chiesa parrocchiale: è S. Bernardino.
E' un esempio di architettura romanico-gotica, con forme semplici ed essenziali. Caratteristico è il tessuto murario: una particolare amalgama di ciottoli e mattoni, spesso disposti a spina di pesce a dare grande effetto decorativo.
La facciata a capanna è scandita da contrafforti e decorata alla sommità da una cornice in cotto ornata da archetti ciechi; essa ospita solo gli elementi strettamente funzionali: il rosone e il portale basso e ampio.
Lo spazio interno è a navata unica; la volta è sostenuta da travi e travette in legno e da archi in muratura. Il soffitto a cassettoni presenta disegni geometrici e gli archi sono decorati con affreschi; il tutto è stato eseguito dai pittori Giovanni e Domenico Zappettini di Bergamo alla fine dell'800 e nei primi anni del '900. Sull'arco trionfale che delimita il presbiterio sono raffigurati a destra San Paolo con la spada, a sinistra San Pietro con le chiavi; al centro c'è il monogramma di Cristo attorniato da angeli in adorazione. Sugli altri archi ci sono le immagini dei quattro evangelisti. Sulle pareti laterali si ammirano pregevoli affreschi quattrocenteschi raffiguranti Gesù deposto dalla croce, la Madonna con il Bambino, diversi Santi e pellegrini, realizzati come ex voto e attribuiti al frate pittore Stefano da Pandino.
La chiesa, dopo la prima visita pastorale del 1500, fu interdetta perché pericolante e molto deteriorata in quanto circondata da acque stagnanti. Restaurata alla meglio nel 1621 e ancora nel 1995, la chiesa mostra ancora la sua completezza e la sua bellezza.
Right in the middle of Agnadello town it stands a small chapel dated 1500: it was once the parish church: San Bernardino.
It's an example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture, with simple and essential forms. The wall texture shows a special mix of pebbles and bricks, often arranged in a herringbone pattern to give great decorative effect.
The façade is punctuated by buttresses and decorated at the top by a terracotta frame decorated with blind arches; it only hosts the strictly functional elements: the rose window and the low portal and wide.
The interior has a single nave; the vault roof is supported by wooden beams and brick arches. The coffered ceiling has geometric designs and arches are decorated with frescoes; the whole thing was done by the painters Giovanni and Domenico Zappettini of Bergamo at the end of 800 and in the early '900. A triumphal arch marks the presbytery: on its right is depicted Saint Paul with the sword, on its left St. Peter with the keys; at the center is depicted Christ's monogram surrounded by worshipping angels. On the other archs we can see images of the four evangelists. On the side walls we admire some fifteenth century frescoes depicting Jesus down from the cross, the Madonna and Child with Saints and other pilgrims, made a vow and attributed to the monk painter Stefano da Pandino.
The church, after the first pastoral visit in 1500, was banned because it was unsafe and very deteriorated since it was surrounded by stagnant water. Restored not very well in 1621 and again in 1995, the church still shows its completeness and its beauty.
