Be vigilant of one-way streets in this part of town. This cache is NOT inside the building and you do not need to climb on anything (including the ladder). Definitely bring your own pen for this micro!
Built in 1937, the historic Goose Creek Post Office now houses the Baytown Historical museum and several City offices. The museum features artifacts from Baytown’s history ranging from the Kawankawa Indians to the oil boom. This building was first Goose Creek, Texas' post office, then the central location for all postal services for the three cities, Pelly, Goose Creek, and Bay Town, until they consolidated in 1947. Just inside the museum you will find a local fresco mural called Texas which exemplifies Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt's art program. Artist George Biddle, a friend of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR), believed that the Works Project Administration should create jobs for artists too. FDR agreed thereby establishing the arts section of the Public Works Administration. Ultimately the mural was awarded to artist Barse Miller who completed it in 1938. It is a must see if you are on location during business hours. Hours are 10 am – 2 pm, Tues. – Sat, admission is free.
