Its name comes from the sand that naturally accumulates at its feet. It was built to allow access to the mill "Banaret" of Lord Brion on the right bank of the Dorne. We find the traces of this mill in the middle of the 19th century, when the Lafont family decided to transform it into a mill (for the work of the silk thread). The building was bequeathed to the town of Cheylard which transformed it into a hospital in 1975.
