[PT:] Diz a tradição que foi na Aldeia de Carvalho que funcionou a sede do antigo Concelho de Alcafache. Na Rua Principal, que atravessa toda a localidade, pode-se ver o edifício que teria servido de Câmara e um cruzeiro no local onde antes terá estado um pelourinho. No Largo da Escada Nova terá existido a prisão e a casa da guarda, hoje transformada em garagem. Perto, existe uma vasta área de terrenos conhecidos por “Pela Grande”. O nome parece indiciar que aqui terá existido um local de descanso e lazer do tempo dos romanos, por eles utilizado antes de prosseguirem viagem.
Casal Mendo estruturou-se em volta da capela erigida em honra de São Frutuoso. Admite-se que deva o seu nome a um indivíduo de nome "Mendo", talvez o presbítero que doou a Presúria de Alcafache à Sé de Coimbra no ano de 1110.
A Cache:
Como o nome indica, a cache é encontrada perto da ponte (construída em 1953) que divide Aldeia de Carvalho e Casal Mendo, duas das aldeias mais importantes da freguesia de Alcafache devido à importância histórica da área. A cache é pequena; contém apenas um logbook. Portanto, é aconselhado/a a trazer a sua própria caneta ou lápis. [EN:] Traditionally, the Municipality of Alcafache was headquartered at Aldeia de Carvalho. On the main road, 'Rua Principal', (which runs through the whole village), the building used as the Parish Assembly can still be found, alongside a large stone cross where a pillory would have been positioned. The prison and the guardhouse would have been located in the 'Largo da Escada Nova', both now converted into a garage. Nearby, a vast area of land can be found, known as the 'Pela Grande'. The name seems to indicate that a resting and leisure place would have existed here in Roman times, for they would use it before continuing on their journeys.
Casal Mendo was structured around the chapel erected in honour of Saint Frutuoso. It is assumed that the village owes its name to an individual named “Mendo”, perhaps a preist who conquered Alcafache on behalf of the Cathedral of Coimbra in the year 1110.
The Cache:
As the name indicates, (translation: "Between Two Villages") the cache is found near the bridge (built in 1953) between Aldeia de Carvalho and Casal Mendo, two of the most important villages in the parish of Alcafache due to the area's historical importance. The cache is small; it only contains a logbook. Therefore, you are advised to bring your own pen or pencil.
