Pašlaik izmantotais Gregora kalendārs tika izveidots pirms vairāk nekā 400 gadiem. Kā atskaites punktu gadu skaitīšanā tas izmanto Jēzus Kristus dzimšanu - iedalot laiku pirms Kristus un pēc Kristus, lai gan pēc zinātnieku domām viņš esot piedzimis ap 5. gadu pirms Kristus. Lai esošo kalendāru padarītu saprotamāku, ir bijuši mēģinājumi aizstāt pirms Kristus un pēc Kristus apzīmējumus ar pirms mūsu ēras(p.m.ē) un mūsu ērā(m.ē), bet tas nav mainījis faktu, ka kalendārs ir piesaistīts kādas reliģiskās kustības vēsturiskajiem notikumiem.
Populārs ir uzskats, ka kalendāra sākuma gadam vajadzētu būt piesaistītam cilvēces attīstības sākumam. Pēc pašlaik izmantotā kalendāra senā Ēģiptes civilizācija pastāvēja no 3100. līdz 332. gadam p.m.ē, Vecā derība sarakstīta ap 500. gadu p.m.ē, bet Jūlijs Cēzars nomira 44. gadā p.m.ē. Kāpēc visi šie ar cilvēces attīstību saistītie notikumi pierakstīti ar apzīmējumu – pirms mūsu ēras? Šim jautājumam jau 1993. gadā pievērsās itāļu izcelsmes ASV dzīvojošais vēsturnieks un zinātnieks Cēzars Emiljani, kura paustā ideja uzskatāmā veidā parādīta nesen veidotājā video Jaunajam kalendāram būtu jāatspoguļo cilvēce no brīža, kad tā sāka mainīt pasauli sev apkārt. Emiljani ierosinājums bija kā kalendāra sākuma gadu izmantot pēdējā leduslaikmeta beigas = holocēna ēras sākumu pirms ~12000 gadiem.
1996. gadā Turcijas teritorijā tika atklāta senākā cilvēku veidotā struktūra, saukta par Gobekli Tepe - sena svētvieta, kas celta ap 10000. gadu p.m.ē un sākotnēji sastāvēja no apmēram 200 vertikāli izvietotiem T formas akmens blokiem līdz 6 metriem augstumā un svarā līdz pat 20 tonnām ar dažādu augu un dzīvnieku atveidiem izkaltiem uz to virsmām. Svētvietas izveidē nepieciešamo darbu apjomi liecina par iepriekš nepieredzētu cilvēku spēju sadarboties kopīgu mērķu labā un sociālo struktūru pastāvēšanu vēl ilgi pirms laika ko saucam par “mūsu ēru”.
Gobekli Tepe svētvietas izveide atspoguļo cilvēces ēras sākumu. Holocēna kalendārs izmanto šo notikumu kā sākuma gadu, pieskaitot papildus 10000 gadus pašlaik izmantotajam Gregora kalendāram, veidojot apziņu, ka modernais cilvēks savus pirmos soļus uz šīs planētas spēris daudz agrāk, kā domāts līdz šim. Pēc Holocēna kalendāra pirmās olimpiskās spēles notika 9226. gadā, revolūcija Francijā notika 11789. gadā, bet Otrais pasaules karš sākas 11939. gadā. Kāpēc gan 80% cilvēces vēstures notikumiem būtu bijis jānotiek “pirms mūsu ēras”?

The Gregorian calendar, developed more than 400 years ago, is the most widely used calendar in the world. It uses the life of Jesus Christ to define year 0, nevertheless scholars believe that Jesus was born around the year 5 BC (Before Christ).
There have been attempts to separate the calendar from Christianity to make it more secular and inclusive by changing BC to BCE(Before Common Era) and AD(Anno Domini, latin for "in the year of the lord") to CE(Common Era). This doesn't do anything then simply removing the historical context of the timeline.
A popular belief is that the beginning of the calendar year should be attached to the beginning of human development. According to the currently used calendar the ancient Egyptian civilization existed from 3100 BCE until the year 332 BCE, the Old Testament was written around 500 BCE, but Julius Caesar died in the year 44 BCE. Why all of these events related to human development are written down with the term - Before Common Era?
This issue was already addressed in 1993 by the Italian-American historian and scientist Cesare Emiliani whose ideas were recently shown in a short video. The new calendar should reflect the humanity from the moment it began to change the world around it. Emiliani suggested to set the begging of the calendar at the end of the last Ice Age / start of the Holocene era ~ 12,000 years ago.
In 1996 the oldest man-made structures called Gobekli Tepe were discovered at the territory of Turkey - an ancient temple, built around 10,000 BCE and originally consisted of approximately 200 vertically arranged T-shaped stone blocks up to 6 meters in height and weighing up to 20 tonnes with a variety of plants and animals images reproduced on their surfaces. The needed amount of work necessary to build something big like that shows the ability of people to work together towards common goals and social structures that existed long before the time called "Before Common Era".
Gobekli Tepe reflects the start of mankind era. The Holocene calendar uses this event as the year zero and adds additional 10,000 years to the currently used Gregorian calendar, creating the awareness that humanity walked this planet a lot earlier than thought until now.
After Holocene calendar the first Olympic Games were held in 9226, the France revolution took place in the 11789, but the Second World War began in 11939. Why 80% of human history events were scheduled for "Before Common Era"?
