Geocache Description:

Another in a series of caches showcasing some of the lesser known waterfalls on the Central Coast.

All the waypoints and final for this cache are close to the Great North Walk as it makes its way north from the Mooney Mooney Creek bridge on the Old Pacific Highway, although a bit of scrambling up and down the embankment is required in places. While the track is mostly level and easy walking, it is a LONG hike (about 6km each way). Allow at least three or four hours to complete this cache and take plenty of water with you.

Heavy rain may make parts of the track impassable for several days. Delay your attempt if in any doubt. King high tides may necessitate wading in places along the lower reaches of the track. The Great North Walk may be closed during periods of increased fire danger so check the Brisbane Water National Park GNW alerts page before heading out.

Starting at the listed coordinates, take a look at the Brisbane Water National Park sign just inside the gate. Which of these is NOT specifically prohibited in the park?

  • Camp fires (A = 2).
  • Horses (A = 3).
  • Motorbikes (A = 4).
  • Dogs (A = 5).

Now make your way along the track, visiting the waypoints B through to G along the way. At each one, match the waypoint letter to the number on the photo. The coordinates given for each waypoint are from where I took the photo, not the object being photographed.

Waypoint photos

The cache is at South 33° 2A.BCD East 151° 1(A+1).EFG

The container is located outside the official national park boundary. There's no mobile phone coverage in the upper reaches of the creek so no checker is provided, however your coordinates should put you halfway down the slope between the track and the water in a place that can be easily accessed (no jumping off cliffs required).

UPDATE: The area around GZ has become increasingly overgrown since I hid the cache, making the hiding place difficult to spot. Aim for somewhere just below it and look back up the slope, but if you get to a point where the ground becomes crazy steep you've gone too far. I've added a photo of the tree right next to the cache (see link below).

The waypoint in the bottom left photo has a deep clear pool suitable for a refreshing dip if the day is hot. Don't drink the water though as it originates from farmland.

Congratulations to bella at waggy, the first to chase this waterfall!
