Due to a recent change in Groundspeak policy, we are able to identify Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) by name..
For a fourth year in a row, S*W*A*G has invited G. Scott Miller (gsmX2) to present on GSAK at the S*W*A*G Yuma Mega-Event. Each year we have received very positive comments about his presentations. He strives to TEACH, not just present, which works best in an comfortable indoor environment. This year, local geocacher, makeme, will join in the effort. We are updating material to provide a multipage handout with click-by-click instructions of everything we have presented so each attendee can take it home and put the material into practice.
Since last year, Scott's resume includes presenting at the Cachin' the Bay Megaevent and at Geowoodstock 14er. He also wrote a three part series on GSAK for an Internationally distributed magazine for geocachers.
This year's program has been updated to add
- Using a mapping macro to plan and efficient route
- Using the mapping macro to have Google Maps create an efficient route
- Several new macros to help plan your route and share your database with others
Returning topics, include
- Show how to use features within this geocaching software to interact directly with geocaching.com to:
-
- Precisely create Pocket Queries;
- Update databases in minutes and acquire FAV points
- Log your geocaches efficiently and INCLUDE useful notes in your logs.
Attendees will learn how to use Macros to:
- Determine if they qualify for many Challenge Caches;
- Clear finds from a database before sending it to others
- Quickly clear the usersort column or renumber it;
- Many others that are yet to be determined.
Space is limited, so please log WILL ATTEND if you plan on being there. If you log WILL ATTEND, please ATTEND.
If you are new to this GSAK program and this sounds too advanced for you, Scott will be teaching two sessions at the Megaevent on Sunday. The basic class is from 9:30 to 11:00 with an intermediate class from 11:30 to 1:00
Use of Personal Computers
If people want to bring their personal computers, bring them, and arrive early so you can get set-up.
The course is designed to show the actions on screen accompanied with verbal instructions. The handout is mostly instructions designed so you can take it home and perform the operations at your own pace.
People who feel that they will learn better with their own laptop should bring them. With over 100 people in attendance, we will not be able to trouble-shoot individual issues or hold up the class to allow people to catch up.
