Mountain Stile
The park has a wide range of facilities and services, including tennis courts, a children’s play area, playing fields, an arboretum, barbeque and picnic areas, a café, specialised mountain bike facilities, and a caravan park and camp site.
A scenic drive (open daily) provides access to the Upper Car Park (see Waypoints below), which is the recommended starting point for access to THIS and all the OTHER caches in the Kilbroney Forest Park – KFP Series.
Finding these caches in one go involves a loop walk of approximately 3¾ miles (6 km). Allowing time to enjoy the views along the way, it will probably take the best part of 2½ to 3 hours to complete. Add ¾ mile (1.2 km) and another 30 minutes or so if you plan to include the two caches on Slieve Martin before returning to the car park.
There are three waymarked walking trails in the forest, which vary in length from two kilometres to seven kilometres, and take the visitor to places where they can enjoy magnificent views and the beauty of the surrounding woodlands. And, for anyone coming here, a visit to The Cloughmore Stone – a short walk from the Upper Car Park – is a must!
Fiddlers’ Green is a small clearing at the southern edge of the Oakwood, which was once a focal point for local entertainment. Rostrevor’s annual festival of traditional music derives its name from this historical site.
PLEASE NOTE that there may be restrictions from time to time on access to parts of the forest to facilitate forest operations. When this occurs, you should adhere strictly to any safety signage that is posted.
THE CACHE is a pre-form tube with magnets, containing ONLY a log roll.
Please remember to bring your own pen or pencil to record your FIND. ’No Sign, No Find!’ is the rule here; otherwise your log will be deleted.
Please be sure to REPLACE THE CACHE EXACTLY AS FOUND. Thanks.
Enjoy the walk and enjoy the FIND!
