Kätkö esittelee yhden jääkauden ihmeen, Kallioportin ja tottakai samalla parit portaat.
Tavallisissa joissa vedet virtaavat aina alaspäin. Toisin oli jäätikön pohjalla, tunnelissa virranneessa jäätikköjoessa. Se oli riippumaton maaston viettosuunnasta, jolloin vedet pystyivät virtaamaan myös ylämäkeen ja ylittämään huomattaviakin esteitä. Siihen oli syynä suljetussa tunnelissa vallinnut hydrostaattinen paine, joka oli suoraan verrannollinen päällä olleen jäätikön paksuuteen.
Juuman itäpuolella Jyrävänniemessä, lännestä virranneet sulamisvedet veivät mukanaan kalliopintaa peittäneet irtomaat ja louhivat rikkonaista kalliota. Alueelle syntyi jyrkkäreunaisia ja syvälle kallioon kuluneita kuruja, joita kutsutaan subglasiaalisiksi uomiksi.
Näin syntyi Pienen Karhunkierroksen varrella oleva yli 60 metriä syvä Kallioportti, jonka reunalta on upeat näkymät ympärillä oleviin rotkoihin.
Vastaavia kuruja ovat myös Hautaniitynvuoma, Jäkälävuoma ja Kitkajoenuoma, jota pitkin nykyinen Kitkajoki virtaa.

Ordinaly, rivers always flow downwords. This is not the case for the glacial river that flower in a tunnel under the ice sheet. Irrespective of the gradient of the terrain, the melt water was also able to flow uphill, forging over, at times even major, obstacles. The explanation behind this is hydrostatic pressure in the enclosed tunnel, which was directly dependent on the thickness of the ice sheet above.
On the eastern side of Juuma, in the Jyrävänniemi headland, the glacial melt water that flowed from the west broke up fractured bedrock and swept away the loose overburden on top of it. Sharp-edged gorges carved deep in the bedrock were formed in the area. These are called subglacial channels.
This is how the more than 60-metre-deep Kallioportti Gorge, situated along the Pieni Karhunkierros trail, was formed. Kallioportti offers incredible views over the surrounding gorge valleys.
Similar gorge can also be seen at Hautaniitynvuoma, Jäkälävuoma and the Kitkajoki channel, along which the Kitkajoki River nowadays flows.
