Grindleford railway station serves the village of Grindleford in the Derbyshire Peak District, in England, although the station is about a mile way, the nearest village being Nether Padley.
It was opened in 1894 on the Midland Railway's Dore and Chinley line (now the Hope Valley Line), at the western entrance to the Totley Tunnel.
The Semaphore signals are due to be decommissioned in December 2016, and the signal box will sadly be demolished.
The line opened up the previously isolated valley to day-trippers to Padley Gorge and commuters from Sheffield, and the transport of stone from the local quarries. The station buildings still exist and have become home to a well known cafe.

It is served by early morning and late evening Liverpool - Norwich (and vice versa) express services, but at all other times a Sheffield - Manchester Picadilly (and vice versa) two ourly stopping trains, except on Saturdays when the service is hourly, which are normally formed of class 142s and occasionally 150s.
During 2003/2004 when major engineering work was taking place on the West Coast Main Line, the station saw a number of diverted HST intercity 125 express services.
Class 222s run the route during the grand national weekend.
Freight trains (usually cement or stone) often pass through the station, mainly serving Hope Cement works or Peak Forest and elswhere.

There are many great walks from the station, and many caches to find. On a sunny day you may want a stroll up padley gorge, which can get very muggly in summer and school holidays. There is a bridge over the railway line which makes an excellent spot for watching trains whizzing through the station and into the Totley Tunnel, the second longest in the country!
The car park and station cafe get very busy on Weekends, so be prepared for a walk to the cache if travelling by car!
The cache is up a short slope from the station cafe. Please replace as found. The path doesnt seem too popular so there shouldn't be too many muggles. Please replace as found and BYOP. No room for TBs sadly.
Interestingly, at 7am on 8 November 2016, a large black cat shape 'neither sheep or pig' ran across the road in front of a car just past the turning for the station on the main road, heading towards fox house. The creature is believed to have been the Black Panther.
