LV: Vecie ebreju kapi. Šeit 1725. gadā tika izveidoti pirmie ebreju kapi Rīgas pilsētā. Līdz tam laikam ebrejiem savi mirušie bija jāved apglabāt uz Lietuvā vai netālu no Jelgavas esošajiem ebreju kapiem.
Staigājot šeit pirms 100 gadiem jūs redzētu masīvu ķieģeļu sienu apkārt kapiem, kas ir fragmentāri saglabājusies arī šodien, iespaidīgus ieejas vārtus pie Līksnas un Ebreju ielu stūra, kā arī pēc ebreju arhitekta Paula Mandelštama projekta 1904. gadā uzbūvēto garāžu bēru ratiem un XIX gs. nogalē celto kapliču.
Ar Jauno ebreju kapu izveidi, šie (nu jau – vecie) tika slēgti, lai gan radinieku apbedīšana turpinājās vēl vismaz 10 gadus.
1941. gadā, vācu karaspēkam ienākot Rīgā, Vecie ebreju kapi tika iekļauti geto teritorijā, kur masu kapos tika apbedīti 800 – 1000 cilvēku, kas tika noslepkavoti geto ielās un mājās, ka arī pretestības grupu dalībnieki.
Beidzoties 2. pasaules karam kapos palikušās kapakmeņu plāksnes tika izzagtas un izmantotas būvniecībā. 1960. gados bijušie kapi tika pārveidoti par Komunistisko brigāžu parku ar gājēju ceļiem un soliņiem atpūtai.
Kādus 30 gadus vēlāk, Latvijai atgūstot neatkarību, parks atguva savu senāko nosaukumu un bijušo ieejas vārtu tuvumā tika atklāts tēlnieka Ulda Sterģa veidotais piemiņas akmens ar Dāvida zvaigzni, kas tika pārcelts no Lielās sinagogas vietas Gogoļa ielā.
2007. gadā tika atklāts otrs piemiņas akmens ar uzrakstu latviešu, angļu un ivrita valodā “Šeit atradās Vecie ebreju kapi (1725-1941)”, bet 2011. gadā pie Dāvida zvaigznes tika izvietota mākslinieciski veidotā informācijas plāksne.
2015. gadā režisors Sergejs Loznica uzņēma dokomentālo īsfilmu ar nosaukumu Vecie ebreju kapi, veltītu Rīgas ebreju piemiņai .
Šodien parks, kas atrodas vienā no nabadzīgākajiem Rīgas rajoniem, ir iecienīts vietējo pensionāru un “bamšļa” mīlētāju vidū (no pēdējiem ieteicams izvairīties).

EN: Old Jewish Cemetery. The first Jewish cemetery in Riga was established here in 1725. Until then, the Jews had to bury their dead in Lithuania or in the Jewish cemetery near Jelgava.
Walking here 100 years ago you would see a massive brick wall around the cemetery, that has partially survived until today, impressive entrance gate near Liksnas and Ebreju streets corner and a 1904 garage for horses, designed by Jewish architect Paul Mandelstamm, and a late XIX century mortuary.
When The New Jewish Cemetery was opened, the old one was closed, but certain burials occurred here until the late 1930s.
After German forces occupied Riga in 1941, the cemetery was included in the ghetto area and in the mass graves made there were buried 800 to 1000 people, who have been killed in the streets of the ghetto and also the Resistance members. Following WWII many of the cemetery's tombstones were removed and used as building material.
In the 1960s the former cemetery got some new benches and pathways and was then renamed to "The Park of the Communist Brigades".
About 30 years later, with the independence of Latvia, the park got its old name back and a memorial stone with the Star of David, originally located at the site of the Great Synagogue at Gogola street, by sculptor Uldis Stergis was placed near the former entrance.
In 2007 a second memorial stone was placed with the inscription in Latvian, English and Hebrew "Here was the Old Jewish Cemetery (1725-1941)", and in 2011 a specially designed information plaque was installed near the star of David.
In 2015 director Sergey Loznitsa made a documentary short film which was dedicated to the memory of Riga Jews called The Old Jewish Cemetery.
Nowadays, the park, located in one of the poorest districts of the Riga, is a popular spot for local seniors and "bamšļa" lovers(it`s recommend to avoid the last ones).
