The building, originally known as Stokenchurch Primitive Methodist Church has an unusual inscription at the front below the date. When the lettering was carved, the first letter was an R instead of a P. Shortly after when the error was realised, an attempt was made to make it into a P! This can be seen, but to the casual observer all would seem to be in order. The church was built in 1896 and little changed until the 1970’s when the hall was divided into two rooms, the ceiling was lowered and the pews replaced with chairs. The church congregation no longer meets there. They joined with Marlow Methodist Church in July 2019 and the building was put up for sale.
At the front of the building there are several inscribed stone tablets. The tablet on the far left facing the road shows that it was laid on behalf of the _._. _ _ _ _ _ by Mr W Britnell. Convert the actual inscribed letters with A=1, B=2, etc. dropping the leading digit where appropriate. Let the first letter be A, the second B, the third C and so on to the seventh letter. The cache is at N51° 39.(B+C)(D-E)G W000° 54.(F-A)(D-A)(G-1).
Geocaching Etiquette. geocaching.com states under 'Help Center' in Paragraph 1.7: 'We like to keep things fun for everyone, so we have a few rules we encourage everyone to follow. Sign both the logbook and log your find online to get your smiley. Geocache owners love reading about your experience'. There are more rules, but this is the first one. This cache owner requests that if on the rare occasion geocachers are unable to sign, an explanation is given in their log. A photo of the cache, if possible should then be sent through the messaging system.
