Geocache Description:

This cache was placed for the YYCCARF16 event, held October 1-2, 2016. It won Best Overall Cache! Thanks for the votes, everyone!

G.O. Cash is the pseudonym assigned to a criminal who rose to leadership of a notorious gang, who were responsible for a series of bank robberies, burglaries, and armed robberies, as well as a number of fraud and smuggling operations. They were active during the early 1950s, and committed a string of crimes in the south and western United States, staying on the move and always one step ahead of authorities.

After accumulating a series of charges for various and numerous crimes in eight different states, a federal task force was assembled to apprehend the gang. They eluded the task force in three more US states, continuing to commit further crimes as they moved north.

Eventually crossing the border from Montana into Alberta, they hoped to escape the federal task force of US Marshals, and apparently had plans to flee to South America via the west coast. The US Marshals pursued the G.O. Cash gang across the border, having a strong vendetta they wanted to settle after being eluded so many times. This led to a high speed chase through rural Alberta, on October 31st, 1956, ending up at a construction site just west of Calgary.

Holed up in the construction site, the gang refused to surrender, and the resulting firefight ended with the deaths of all the G.O. Cash gang members, as well as 11 US Marshals. This became known as the Hallowe'en massacre.

G.O. Cash, however managed to escape on foot. He fled to a nearby farm house, where several local ranchers were gathered drinking whiskey. G.O. Cash reportedly brandished a pistol and demanded a vehicle. The ranchers refused, and Cash's weapon jammed as he attempted to open fire. The ranchers overpowered Cash, tied him, and hanged him on a gallows that had been used to dispense capital punishments in the wild west. They then cremated the body.

No photograph of G.O. Cash has ever been taken, and his true identity remains a mystery. It has been suggested that he was not actually slain following the Hallowe'en massacre, and may still be at large.

Please treat cache container gently.

Unfortunately this 6 stage multi has now been downgraded to a Traditional as parts of the final stage went missing.
