ATENÇÃO: Aceder ao local da EarthCache seguindo o caminho pedonal que inicia junto ao Forte de Santa Susana (também chamado de Ribamar ou de São Lourenço), em direcção à Praia de São Lourenço, até chegar junto das antigas casinhas de pescadores.

Há rastos no tecto?
Há sim, mas são rastos fósseis. Ou seja, icnofósseis!
O que são icnofósseis?
Os icnofósseis são fósseis de vestígios da actividade de organismos do passado, preservadas no substrato rochoso. Por exemplo, são icnofósseis os fósseis de pegadas, de pistas de deslocação, de marcas de dentadas, de túneis e de galerias de habitação, entre outros.
A EarthCache
No local desta EarthCache, no “tecto” rochoso entre as antigas casinhas dos pescadores (e em diversos outros locais desta arriba), é possível observar inúmeros icnofósseis do tipo Thalassinoides, galerias atribuídas a crustáceos decápodes escavadores (semelhantes a lagostins) do grupo dos Callianassa.
Registar a visita
Para registar a visita nesta EarthCache bastará ir até às coordenadas indicadas, olhar para o “tecto” entre as casinhas dos pescadores e responder a estas 2 questões:
1. Qual a largura média dos rastos observados nesse local? (2 cm, 10 cm ou 20 cm?)
2. Qual a natureza da camada geológica onde se observam os icnofósseis? (calcários, margas ou arenitos?)

There are trails on the ceiling?
Yes there are, but they are fossil traces, ie ichnofossils!
What are ichnofossils?
The ichnofossils are fossil traces of past organisms activity preserved in the bedrock. For example ichnofossils are the fossils of footprints, displacement tracks, bite marks, tunnels and housing galleries, among others.
 The EarthCache
In this EarthCache place, on the rocky "ceiling" between the old fishermen cottages (and in many other locations in the cliff), you can observe numerous ichnofossils of Thalassinoides type, ie galleries attributed to decapod crustaceans diggers of Callianassa group (mud shrimps).
Register the visit
To register the visit to this EarthCache you should go to the given coordinates, look at the "ceiling" between the fishermen cottages and answer these two questions:
1. What is the average width of the tracks observed at that location? (2 cm, 10 cm or 20 cm?)
2. What is the nature of the geological layer where you observe the trace fossils? (Limestone, marl or sandstone?)
If you think you have the correct answers, do your “found” log but sends me the answers by email or message through this site. If I don’t answer you is because they are correct!

An Earthcache is a special place that people can visit to learn about a unique geoscience feature or aspect of our Earth.
