Alder Lake Park is an expansive recreation area along the shores of scenic Alder Lake, the large reservoir formed by Alder Dam on the Nisqually River. (There may be a few alder trees nearby.) The park is owned and managed by Tacoma Power, and is open year-round.
The park has large picnic areas along the scenic lakefront, plus some nestled in the trees, two boat launches, and four campgrounds with a total of 173 campsites (tent and RV). There are playgrounds for the kids and even a 20-slip boat moorage dock that's free of charge.
The cache: The cache is along a wooded lake-front trail. No bushwhacking required.
2016 was the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, and to celebrate, Visit Rainier and WSGA hosted the Visit Rainier Centennial GeoTour - 100 caches placed in and around Mount Rainier National Park. The geocaches highlighted the rich history, scenic wonders, quaint communities, and hidden gems of the Rainier region. Participants received geocoin and pathtag prizes for finding all the caches.
