LLELA is a nature destination tucked behind the Lake Lewisville Dam. Check out a binder with puzzle sheet at the gatehouse. Search for 12 hidden letters along 4 different trails. Once all are found, the letters form a phrase. Take the completed phrase to the gatehouse to receive a Geocaching patch and the coordinates to the final physical cache location, which contains a log book and is stocked with nature themed trade items. LLELA, or the Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area, is a hidden gem in our area. Our mission: To preserve and restore native Texas ecosystems and biodiversity while providing opportunities for environmental education, research, and recreation. The LLELA gatehouse has two GPS receivers available for checkout during open hours, and three printed copies of the activity directions in binders. First come, first served. A valid driver's license must be left at the gatehouse as collateral for the return of the borrowed GPS receiver. The coordinates listed here are for the parking area. Geocachers MUST enter LLELA only during regular public hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 1-October 31; 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 1-February 28). All visitors are required to enter LLELA through our gate at 201 E. Jones St., Lewisville, TX 75057. There is no public access along Business-121 Highway. There is a $5/vehicle daily fee. Some trails are prone to flooding: visit LLELA.org for current trail conditions. Prepare for hiking with closed-toe shoes, long pants, a bottle of water for each person, sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat.
