Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park is an 80-acre natural area located in the center of Port Townsend. It encompasses 25-acres of open water, 15-acres of wetlands, and 40-acres of uplands. It is a brackish wetland on the Pacific Flyway and is used for waterfowl nesting, resting and feeding. Long standing community interest in maintaining the lagoon as a natural area and wildlife habitat culminated in the creation of the park in 1985 with matching grant assistance from Washington State Interagency Commission for Outdoor Recreation (IAC).

In 2006 Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park was featured as one of 54 “hot spots” for spotting birds on the Olympic Loop of the Great Washington State Birding Trail. The Admiralty Audubon Society’s 2011 bird survey of the park identified 61 land and 29 water associated bird species.

The nearby Port Townsend Golf Course has two environmentally sensitive areas located on the grounds: a three-acre native prairie preserve and a four-acre (spring fed) fresh water pond and associated wetland and buffers.

Enjoy Port Townsend!
