Welcome to Hobuck Beach, ‘the beginning of the world’ and home to the Makah – The Cape People. Located on the Pacific Ocean on the west side of the Makah Reservation, Hobuck Beach offers walking, birding, surfing, camping, swimming, and much more. The Gathering Place’s open floor plan is designed to provide a venue for cultural gatherings and a display of local Makah art. The vistas and the surrounding area are breathtaking and an important location historically and spiritually for the Makah Tribe.
The park is located where the nutrient-rich water of the Clallam River empties into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, providing a constant food source for shore and marine birds. Eagles and osprey can be seen feeding on the beach; viewing marine mammals is an added bonus. The dynamic hydrology interaction taking place between the Clallam River and the tides provide an opportunity to witness drastic changes to the landscape each time you visit.
The facility included public access to the Clallam Spit, one mile of a terrific sand/gravel saltwater beach, access to the Clallam River, a picnic area and a full-service restroom, which are welcome break on the Highway 112 National Scenic Byway. The park is located in the center of the Clallam Bay community about 45 miles west of Port Angeles.
