Estávamos em 1806, Portugal era governado pela Casa de Bragança. O regente, príncipe D. João recusava o pedido de Napoleão de participar no bloqueio comercial à Inglaterra.
Quando, a 12 de Agosto, Napoleão e o rei D. Carlos IV de Espanha pediram ao príncipe D. João que Portugal declarasse guerra a Inglaterra, o mesmo foi novamente recusado. Isto fez com que Napoleão enviasse o seu estimado general Junot a comandar a invasão a Portugal, que teve início a 17 de Novembro de 1807. As tropas de Junot entraram em Portugal por Segura, na Beira Baixa e acabaram por capturar a cidade de Lisboa no dia 30 desse mês.
Nos primeiros dias de Dezembro, chegam a Peniche grandes contingentes militares franceses da arma de infantaria, a fim de lá se aquartelarem na sua praça-forte. Até aqui, Junot tinha reunido um espólio considerável na sua campanha militar por Portugal. Assim que soube que as tropas inglesas, lideradas por Arthur Wellesley (depois duque de Wellington) estariam a caminho de Portugal e que, provavelmente iriam desembarcar a Norte de Peniche em Agosto de 1808, pensou logo em esconder o seu tesouro no sítio mais inacessível que pôde pensar: a Ilha das Pombas, um ilhéu situado em frente à ilha do Baleal.
Como se não bastasse, Junot mandou construir um fortim na ponta da Ilha do Baleal, orientado para a Ilha das Pombas, cujas ruínas ainda hoje são observáveis e que tinha o propósito de guardar o tesouro escondido na ilha em frente.
Consta que, até hoje, o tesouro de Junot, general francês napoleónico, encontra-se ainda por ser descoberto…
Acessos
O Acesso pode ser feito de duas maneiras distintas: pelo mar ou pelo ar.
No caso de ser abordada por mar, há que escolher muito bem o ponto de acesso, tendo em conta as rochas que se encontram ao nível do mar e a inclinação da subida.
Também, só deverão ponderar uma ida à Ilha das Pombas em dias de mar em óptimas condições. Preferencialmente, com ondulação igual ou inferior a 1,5m de altura. Poderão consultar as previsões do mar e vento para o Baleal em Windguru Peniche & Baleal: https://www.windguru.cz/?s=48951

The History and the Story
We were in 1806, Portugal was ruled by the House of Braganza. The regent, Prince John refused Napoleon’s request to take part in the commercial blockade of England.
When, on 12 August, Napoleon and King Charles IV of Spain asked Prince John that Portugal declared war on England, he refused once more. This caused Napoleon to send his trusted general, Junot, to command the invasion of Portugal, which began on 17 November 1807. Junot’s troops entered Portugal by Segura, in Beira Baixa and eventually captured the city of Lisbon on the 30th of the same month.
In the first days of December, a large French military contingent of infantry weaponry arrived at Peniche, and took hold in its stronghold. So far, Junot had gathered a considerable booty in his military campaign in Portugal. As soon as he learned that the British troops, led by Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington) were on their way to Portugal and that would probably arrive north of Peniche in August 1808, he immediately thought of hiding his treasure in the most inaccessible place that he could think of: the Ilha das Pombas, a small island situated in front of the island of Baleal.
Not only that, Junot built a small fortress on the edge of Baleal Island, oriented to the Ilha das Pombas, which ruins are still observable, that was intended to protect the hidden treasure on the island up front.
Reportedly, to this day, the treasure of Junot, french napoleonic general, is yet to be discovered ...
Access
The access can be done in two different ways: by sea or by air.
In the case you want to approach by sea, you have to choose very well the access point, taking into account the rocks at sea level and the slope of the ramp.
Also, you should only consider going to Ilha das Pombas in days with prime sea conditions. Preferably, with waves not exceeding 1,5 meters tall. You may consult the sea and wind forecast for Baleal at Windguru Peniche & Baleal: https://www.windguru.cz/?s=48951
