This cache has been archived.

Leonards193: After visiting the hospital and making the most of my free parking, having cancer does have it's (small) benefits, I came to look for this one.
Unable to find, can't be bothered to replace again so archiving.
Thanks to all the finders 🙂

Geocache Description:

PLEASE be stealthy here and remember a pen!

This Place of Worship was founded in 1890, and it is still open.

This building must have been one of the first, if not the first place of worship to open in Southmead. It is built of red brick, with sides of four bays, each bay having a double lancet window; and a central porch, above which is a venetian style window, with matching lancets, and a date stone above it which reads "Southmead / Gospel Hall / A.D. 1890".

More recent signage, on either side of the central window, reads "Kingsholm / Church", in white lettering on a green background, contrasting with the green barge-board trims - it is a good-looking church.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 10th December 1897 (p.7420) recorded its registration for marriages:
NOTICE is hereby given that a separate building named Gospel Hall situated at Southmead in the civil parish of Westbury on Trym in the county of Gloucester in the registration district of Barton Regis being a building certified according to law as a place of meeting for religious worship, was on the fourth day of December 1897, duly registered for solemnizing marriages therein, pursuant to the Act of 6th and 7th Wm. 4, c.85. Dated 4th December 1897.
