Geocache Description:

This is the third in a series of caches showcasing some of the Central Coast's lesser known waterfalls.

Do not attempt this cache immediately after heavy rain and take care with your footing. Treat any wet rock as slippery until proven otherwise.

Expect this to take about an hour to complete, or a bit longer if you linger to soak up the scenery.

Stage 1: From the parking spot in Amethyst Avenue, follow the dirt road to the listed coordinates where you'll find a power pole bearing a number beginning with the letters BB. The four numerals following are ABCD.

Stage 2: Twenty metres past the pole, take the fork to the right and follow the walking track uphill to this vantage point from where you'll see an impressive cave. You can climb up onto the rock on the side of the track for a better view, or follow the small side track all the way up, but for the purpose of this cache all you need do is answer this question. What colour is the back wall of the big cave?

  • Dark grey (E = 1)
  • Red (E = 2)
  • Creamy white (E = 3)
  • Black (E = 4)

Stage 3: Here you'll come to an unusual rock protuberance in the roof of a cave. Pass under it then turn around and look back at it. Which human anatomical feature does it most resemble?

  • Lips (F = 6)
  • An eye (F = 7)
  • A tongue (F = 8)
  • An ear (F = 9)

Stage 4: At last you've reached the waterfall. You can admire the view from the side or walk down behind the falls, it doesn't matter. What colour is the rock in the stream bed just below the falls?

  • Yellow (G = 0)
  • Red (G = 1)
  • White (G = 2)
  • Black (G = 3)

Stage 5: Climb the steps in the gap through the rocks to go above the falls. Take care here and go right to the top between the overhang and the tree, which is well back from the edge. The rock can be very slippery! Once at the top, follow the watercourse upstream to this waypoint. What best describes this feature?

  • A cave (H = 5)
  • A waterfall (H = 6)
  • Huge boulders (H = 7)
  • Cascades and potholes (H = 8)

Stage 6: Continue upstream a little further until you reach the final stop. What best describes this feature?

  • A pool (J = 1)
  • A watercourse junction (J = 2)
  • A box canyon and falls (J = 3)
  • A basalt intrusion (J = 4)

Final: Your journey is complete so retrace your steps to find the cache at South 33° EA.CFB East 151° GH.BJB. As a quick check, A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H+J = 34. While the cache can be reached on foot from Amethyst Avenue, you'll find it easier to approach from the south on one of the other side streets off Diamond Road.

I've set the public transport attribute as there's a bus service from Woy Woy and Umina to Pearl Beach, but it doesn't run very frequently so check the timetables first!

Congratulations to bella at waggy, the first to complete the journey!
