A Igreja
A Igreja Matriz de S. Pedro merece uma referência. Foi alvo de diversas intervenções desde a sua construção, a última das quais na década de 20 do século XX. Exteriormente, a frontaria é ladeada por torreão com dois sinos.
No interior, apresenta no altar-mor uma escultura de Cristo em tamanho quase natural, que usualmente faz parte da procissão de Nossa Senhora das Angústias. Tem dois altares laterais, consagrados a Nossa Senhora de Fátima e ao Coração de Jesus.
A Freguesia
A freguesia de Barreiros situa-se no extremo sul do concelho de Amares, a quatro quilómetros da freguesia-sede, e no seu limite com o concelho de Braga. Antes da fundação da Nacionalidade, a zona em que hoje se insere a freguesia já era habitada. Atravessava-a a Estrada da Geira, via Romana que ligava Braga a Astorga.
Tal como a vizinha freguesia de Lago, o território em que se insere a atual freguesia devia pertencer à Condessa Mumadona, grande proprietária do século X em toda a região de Entre-Douro-e-Minho. A toponímia aponta também para a antiguidade do seu povoamento, através de nomes como Barral ou o próprio nome da freguesia, Barreiros. Aquele de sentido geológico (terra barrenta, como eram as terras nos primórdios da Nacionalidade ou antes ainda); este referindo-se provavelmente a indivíduos que se dedicavam à indústria do barro, ou então aos moradores do bárrio (da zona do barro).
Barreiros era então, antes do século XII, Barrarios. Nas Inquirições de 1220, de D. Afonso II, Barreiros surge incluída no Couto de Rendufe com o nome de Sancto Petro de Trianaa. As paróquias consagradas a S. Pedro são, geralmente, reveladoras de grande antiguidade. O facto de a paróquia de Barreiros ter sido integrada em Rendufe parece estar na origem de uma certa obscuridade em que a história medieval da freguesia permanece até hoje. Por ser tão importante, Rendufe como que «apagou» todas as paróquias e terras que lhe pertenciam.
A primeira Igreja Paroquial de S. Pedro de Barreiros, como decorre do que se disse antes, deve ter sido fundada antes do século XII. Seria então igreja própria da estirpe dos fundadores e dotadores do mosteiro. Aliás, terá sido através de uma doação que a paróquia passou para o Mosteiro de Rendufe, que ainda no século XVIII aqui apresentava o cura.
Na primeira metade do século XIX, com a extinção dos mosteiros e das ordens religiosas, Barreiros transitou para a jurisdição administrativa do concelho de Entre Homem e Cávado, futuramente denominado Amares.
Com uma área de 304 hectares, a freguesia de Barreiros tem atualmente 760 habitantes (dados de 2011), distribuídos por 238 famílias clássicas residentes e por um total de 340 edifícios.

The church
The Mother Church of St. Peter deserves a reference. It has been the target of several interventions since its construction, the last of which in the 20's of the 20th century. Outwardly, the front is flanked by a turret with two bells.
In the interior, it presents / displays in the main altar a sculpture of Christ in almost natural size, that usually is part of the procession of Our Lady of the anxieties. It has two side altars, consecrated to Our Lady of Fatima and to the Heart of Jesus.
The Town
The parish of Barreiros is located at the southern end of the county of Amares, four kilometers from the main parish, and at its border with the county of Braga. Before the foundation of Nationality, the zone in which today the parish is inserted was already inhabited. It crossed the Geira road, a Roman road that linked Braga to Astorga.
Like the neighboring parish of Lago, the territory in which the current parish is located should belong to the Countess Mumadona, a great owner of the 10th century throughout the region of Entre-Douro-e-Minho. The toponymy also points to the antiquity of its settlement, through names like Barral or the name of the parish itself, Barreiros. The one with geological sense (muddy land, as were the lands in the beginnings of Nationality or before still); This one referring probably to individuals who were dedicated to the industry of clay, or to the inhabitants of the brio (of the clay zone).
Barreiros was then, before century XII, Barrarios. In the Inquiries of 1220, of D. Afonso II, Barreiros appears included in Couto de Rendufe with the name of Sancto Petro de Triana. The parishes consecrated to St. Peter are generally revealing of great antiquity. The first Parish Church of S. Pedro de Barreiros, as follows from what was said before, must have been founded before the twelfth century.
