Il Palazzo Salis a Tirano è uno dei più importanti della Valtellina
Palazzo Salis é rimasto attraverso i secoli sempre di proprietà dei Conti Sertoli Salis. Si sviluppa su una struttura che presenta una facciata di stile tardo-cinquecentesco, fiancheggiata da due torri, con un portale centrale barocco realizzato su disegno del Vignola.
Dall' ingresso s'infila un portico che conduce al suggestivo giardino interno "all'italiana", uno dei più significativi della Lombardia e senz'altro il più noto in Valtellina. All'interno del palazzo, di notevole interesse troviamo un circuito museale di 10 sale decorate ed affrescate, tutte recentemente restaurate, tra cui il cosiddetto "Saloncello", importante sala splendidamente affrescata e punto d’incontro del potere politico in Valtellina nel XVII e XVIII secolo, oltre alla chiesetta barocca di famiglia dedicata a S.Carlo Borromeo.
Tutte le sale del museo si affacciano sull’antica corte cinquecentesca detta corte rustica, o “corte dei cavalli”.
L’accesso al museo avviene salendo l’imponente scalone d’onore e transitando per il Salone d'onore, che presenta un soffitto magnificamente affrescato con decorazioni pittoriche settecentesche attribuite al pittore Cucchi e che è stato restaurato negli anni ottanta sotto la supervisione della Soprintendenza ai Beni Ambientali ed Architettonici. Palazzo Salis in Tirano is one of the most important palazzi in Valtellina.
The basic structure consists of a façade from late 1500s, flanked by two towers, with a central baroque portal designed by Vignola, the great Italian Mannerist architect. From the entrance, we pass through a portico to enter the beautiful Italian-style interior garden, one of the most important gardens in Lombardy, and certainly the greatest example in Valtellina of a noble garden.
Of particular interest within the palazzo a recently opened fully restored museum will take you back 300 years in a facinating atmosphere with relevant documents, beautiful frescoes, precious paintings and peculiar objects. The museum is conceived along 10 beautiful and recently restored rooms, including the so called “Saloncello” (the Reading Hall), which shows one of the most relevant decorations with an interesting frescoed ceiling and a Baroque fireplace with plasterwork decorations representing the Salis and Wolkenstein coats of arms. The visit includes also the private baroque church consecrated to Saint Carlo Borromeo and all rooms look into a rustic sixteenth-century courtyard called the Corte dei Cavalli (Horse Court).
To reach the museum the visitor goes through the Great Hall which has a ceiling decorated with seventeenth-century frescoes attributed to the painter Cucchi, restored within the last two decades under the supervision of Italian Board of Environmental and Architectural Treasures.
