Geocache Description:

Part of a series taking you to some of our favourite places to spend time in Toronto.

The Gerrard/Ashdale Library is located at 1432 Gerrard St E in the heart of Little India.

This library has been open for 90+ years and will soon be joining the ranks of Toronto Public Libraries Centennial branches. Unlike others, Gerrard/Ashdale has spent all of its years at this location. This could explain why there used to be a separate entrance for the children's department.

The library has a small outdoor patio used for demonstrations and programs including an Annual Storytelling event. In fact, Canadian children's author Gordon Korman has been here! The patio is often used for reading, even after hours.

The library has a working relationship with the Gerrard India Bazaar, the largest South Asian marketplace in North America. Every July the library participates in the Festival of South Asia. With support from the BIA and community groups, the library is able to develop meaningful projects and events including a mural that is painted on the wall on the Gerrard St side of the patio.
