Geocache Description:


This multi is designed to bring you on a short tour of some of the highlights in the Queen's Quarter area of Belfast.


Stage 1: The Lanyon Building


The given coordinates are for stage 1 and bring you outside the Lanyon Building. Designed by architect Charles Lanyon in 1849, the university had 23 professors and 343 students when it opened. In 2014/2015, the university had 23,853 students.


To find A: the year the 'most favoured route south' was completed, 18A1.



Stage 2: University Street


University Street is the very centre of the Queen's Quarter and Stranmillis Village, with the Lanyon Building and the Students Union sitting opposite each other.


To find B: the year the college for training of ministers was founded, 18B5


Stage 3: Whitla Hall


William Whitla was a physicist and politician born in Monaghan. Whitla studied medicine and Queen's and was a wealthy man. Upon his death, money was set aside to build an assembly hall, what is now Sir William Whitla Hall.


To find C: Underneath the blue plaque, there's another plaque. Find the year: 19C0.


Stage 4: John Bell Blue Plaque


John Bell was a Belfast-born physicist and the originator of Bell's theorem. He studied at Queen's and subsequently at the University of Birmingham.


To find D: The last digit mentioned on the blue plaque.


Stage 5: Eco Sculpture


Eco stands outside McClay Library and was unveiled for the centenary of the university in 2008.

Stage 6: Botanic Gardens


Opened in 1828 as private gardens, the Botanic Gardens sits on 28 acres and houses the Ulster Museum.

Stage 7: Friar's Bush Graveyard


Friar's Bush is believed to be Belfast's oldest cemetery, dating back to pre-Christian times.
