Geocache Description:

This multicache will bring you to several places of significance in Battle Ground's history.

A Short History of Battle Ground

This multicache starts at the mural located at the designated coordinates.  Designed by a local artist, Snapshots in Time was conceived out of a desire to highlight Battle Ground’s unique history and to build a sense of community pride.  It begins at the far left with images of Chief Umtuch and Captain Strong, whose averted battle provided the name for our town.  Images also consist of the 1904 census, the logging industry, the cheese factory, the Rose Float and many others.  Take some time to enjoy the pictures and look for the following:

What year was the mural established ?  Let the 4th number = A

Let the number of people working in the cheese factory = B

What was the date of the Reflector’s first issue? Let the day of the month – 6 = C.  Let the month - 2 = D.

What is the date on the sign related to the “battle” between Chief Umtuch and Captain Strong?  Let the day of the month + 6 = EE.  Let the last number in the year = F

The next location is at N 45 46.EEF W 122 31.ABD

This will bring you to the building location of the only parade float entered into the Portland Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade that is completely hand made by volunteers.  All floats are required to be built using only organic materials.  It all started in 1955 when the Battle Ground High School band wanted to march in the Grand Floral Parade.  They had just received new uniforms and wanted to show them off but they needed a float in order to enter their band.  A float has been entered ever since to celebrate our hometown.  The 2016 float won the coveted Royal Rosarian Award at the Grand Floral Parade.

What is the address of this building?  Let the 1st number + 3 = G, the 2nd number = H and the 4th number -2 = I

Let the number of power boxes on the front of the building = J

Let the number of letters on top of the logo sign on the building (don't count the bottom part) – 2 = K

The next location is at N 45 46.JIH W 122 31.GKB

A short trip to our next location will bring you to Battle Ground’s newest public library which opened May 15, 2009.  A grass-roots community effort resulted in the building you see before you.  Some of the fund raising efforts that brought this library to included diving through dumpsters to find books for resale, dinner theater plays, and raffles.  At the waypoint location, you will see two benches and several bricks in the ground.

Let the number of letters on the second name on the right bench (after the dash) = L

There are two “in memory of” bricks in front of one bench.  Let the number of years Jenneane was born after Rolland = M.

The final location is at N 45 46.JKC W 122 31.G(M+A)L.  Be sure to note the code word and the North location of the final cache.
