An 1043, on voit apparaître dans les chartes de St Bertin la forme ancienne du nom de notre village : Bovorkem.
Celui-ci désignait alors une paroisse (altare) où résidait un religieux (personat), nommé Hetland, chargé de desservir la cure. A cette époque reculée, c’était une fonction des moines bénédictins de tenir ainsi des postes curiaux à la campagne.

( Boverinkehem, Boveringhem, Bofrichem) ; mais il n’y a aucun doute sur son identité.
