Geocache Description:

***NEWS***

The fourth annual Hòn Một CITO event (GC8KVHA) will be held on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 9:30AM. Please click the link for details. Postponed until October, 2020. Postponed until the Covid-19 travel and social distancing restrictions are lifted.

Phú Quốc Island is one of my favorite travel destinations. If you're looking to escape the madness of the big city, you'll find relaxing solitude here, as well as beautiful natural scenery and friendly people. In my opinion, renting a scooter is the best way to explore this island, which can be traversed from north to south in just a couple of hours.

If you're looking for an even smaller and less populated place, then drive your motorbike to Hòn Một, a tiny islet located 200 meters off Phú Quốc's northeast coast. This uninhabited island is so small that you can walk around it in about 15 minutes.

"Hòn Một" simply means "One island." Another possible translation is "A ball" which aptly describes its round shape. My Vietnamese friend told me that it used to be called Mồ Côi, which means "orphan."

A rickety bamboo walking bridge takes you from Phú Quốc to Hòn Một, but the water is so shallow that you can choose to just wade across.

Once on the island, you'll come upon the beginning of a walking path. Follow the path clockwise around to the cache; on the way you'll see tropical greenery, beach morning glories, and Cambodia just across the sea.

Unfortunately, you'll also see garbage littering the shore. I encourage geocachers to practice CITO and try to take away at least a little trash.

The cache is located on the opposite side of the islet. Look for a large banyan tree at a picnic area (see spoiler photo). Look in the center of the tree, about one meter high, for a UPC...Unnatural Pile of Coconuts! The container is a metal tube inside of a coconut husk. Please hide the container well when returning it to the tree.

Please bring your own pen. The log sheet must be signed to qualify as a Find.
