#26 North Devon Mystery Cache

About this series:

This series of caches is based upon the life and work of dairy farmers Mark & Pen DeLogg on the Lincolnshire Fens. As well clues to solving the puzzle on each cache page will be a fact about cows and their behaviour, as well as information about particular breeds of cattle around the British Isles and the world.

• The cache is not hidden at the published coordinates.
• Steep drops and water may be encounted at some GZs, keep the little ones safe.
• No animals were encountered when the caches were placed.
• The cache size was made as large as possible according to the hiding place, varying from magnetic nanos to regular size boxes
• You may need to provide your own TOTT i.e tweezers
• Please park sensibly, safely, and considerably.
• The D/T ratings concern the difficulty to both the puzzle and hides.

Cow Fact

You can lead a cow upstairs, but not downstairs. Cows knees can't bend properly to walk downstairs.

About North Devon Cows:
The Devon is an ancient breed of cattle from the south western English county of Devon.It is a rich red or tawny colour, and this gives rise to the popular appellation of Devon Ruby or Red Ruby, also used as a marketing brand. The breed is also sometimes referred to as the North Devon to avoid confusion with the more recently developed South Devon cattle breed which is yellowish brown. Devons are active good "walkers" and are excellent foragers. Their ability to utilize grass and other forages efficiently has heightened their popularity in areas such as southern Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand.
In recent years however, the breed has fallen out of favour, as more rapidly growing continental breeds were in demand by both the farmer and butcher because of their speed of maturity and the quantity of higher-value cuts they produce. However, that meat has always been of a lower-eating quality than that of the slower-maturing grass-fed traditional breeds.

Now for the puzzle:

It wasn’t every often that the DeLogg family got the chance to go out for the day as one family.  Mark was either working in the fields or milking the cows, whilst Pen was with her ladies doing the social events and the kids Phil and Heidi were usually at School and college.

The chance for a break from the farm came when Nora Dolomite, their only employee volunteered to work her weekend off, with pay of course.
The family decided to make the short distance to their nearest City; Lincoln.  It had all the family needed to make the most of a weekend off with some great attractions to visit and some good coffee houses.

The City was quite busy as Lincoln City were playing at home against Chelsea.  The Red Imps were on a cup run, but first on the tour was Lincoln University which is fast becoming one of the top universities in the country, so the DeLogg family took the time to have a look around as Phil was thinking about getting a degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare when he leaves College.

Then a trek up the legendary aptly named Lincoln Steep Hill was in order to visit Lincoln Cathedral which is one of the most magnificent buildings in England and well worth the visit.

Then it was onto Lincoln Castle where it is the only place in the world where you can find original copies of both the 1215 Magna Carta and the 1217 Charter of the Forest, one of only two surviving copies.  The Magna Carta is housed in a new exhibition hall in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.

The family finished their tour of Lincoln in the uphill sector, the old Lincoln with the post shops and tourist hotels – The perfect place for painting the town red.

Soon it was time for the family to return to the farm, but at least they all would get a lie in tomorrow!
