Geocache Description:

All you need is love, love is all you need. (John Lennon/Paul McCartney)

That, and a little HOPE. However it is a play-on of artist Robert Indiana's design that you will need to find in order to figure out where the cache is.

Welcome to the New York Public Library system! This cache has limited hours of availability, which are listed below on the cache page.

Did you know that every branch of the New York Public Library offers free Wi-Fi? That's great news for all geocachers visiting from out of town!

***WOW!!! Geocachers who have found at least 4 NYPL caches are eligible for a Level 1 bronze pathtag! Geocachers who find at least 8 NYPL caches are eligible for a Level 2 silver pathtag! And any geocachers that have found 12 or more NYPL caches are eligible for the Level 3 GOLD pathtag as well! If you think you qualify, please send me a note and I will get your tag(s) out to you.

Update: May 2017 - I have been notified by the New York City Geocaching Community that the NYPL Series of caches has won the award for Best Series in NYC in 2016!! Thank you to everyone who has visited to this point as your logs are a big reason why this has happened!

If you want to test out the email address that you will be using to help you find this cache, email the letters "NYPL" to NYPLGEO@gmail.com and you should get a response confirming you are using the correct email address. However, when performing the cache, you will need to send a new email to this email address. Do not reply to any "canned responses" you have received. ***It has come to my attention that some email addresses might not receive the responses, specifically AOL. If you run into this problem, please try a different email address (if you have one) or send a message to the CO and I will do my best to respond ASAP.

In the 1960's, artist Robert Indiana created the Pop Art image that you will get to see in sculpture form today. The original sculpture was created in 1970 in Indiana and has now popped up at various locations around the world, including New York City at the posted coordinates.

To find this cache:

Stage 1 - Go to the posted coordinates and visit the HOPE sculpture. Maybe take a selfie or picture in front of the sculpture if the line isn't too long. Then look at the corner of the nearby CHASE building for a white sign with red letters. Email the FIRST WORD (nine letters) to NYPLGEO@gmail.com and you will get your instructions on what to do next. If you do not get an email response within 2 minutes, send a message to the CO and I will do my best to get back to you right away.

Did you know that every branch of the New York Public Library offers free Wi-Fi? If you cannot send an email from Stage 1, walk to the posted waypoint coordinates so you can use the free Wi-Fi inside and send your email answer.

Stage 2: Read your email. Find the geocache!
