Man kan inte annat än beundra Kumla kommuns ledning från runt 2010. Under varande lågkonjunktur väljer man att frimodigt satsa sig framåt. En investering på ca 20 miljoner kronor gjordes i detta anspråkslösa fält. Man kan riktigt tänka sig hur det lät på mötena:
-Lågkonjunktur råder i kommunen. Skatteintäkterna har minskat. Vi måste spara.
-Nej, vi måste satsa på bidrag och jobb för att komma igång igen.
-Nej, jag tycker vi ökar intäkter utifrån. Vi behöver turister.
-Bra idé. Men hur? Vi är ju ingen blomstrande havspärla. Tänk vad mycket enklare det vore om man bara hade en bit kust. Som Sandhamn, Smögen eller Piteå. Kuster lockar alltid, och vi har ingen kust.
-Men nu sa du något smart. Vi ska bli en kuststad! Eller i alla fall en sjöstad.
Och så kom man att bygga denna fantastiska park med sjö och allt. Och namnet fick bli Kumla sjöpark. Det sägs faktiskt att man hos kommunfullmäktige hade än mer långtgående planer. Vi har ingen källa på just det, så det kanske bara är ett rykte. Men ett förslag som inte blivit verklighet, än i alla fall, kommer du att få se när du loggar denna enkla och anspråkslösa cache.

-No, now it’s time to invest in creating more jobs, and to pay allowances.
-No, I think we should increase income from outside our region. We need more tourists.
-Good idea. But how? We’re not one of the popular, cozy small towns by the seashore. Just a little bit of coastline would have made this a lot easier.
-You just said it! We should be a coastal city! Or at least a nice town by a lake.
And then they built this fantastic park with lake and all. And they named it Kumla sjöpark. We’ve heard that some plans were even more far-reaching. You could say extreme. But maybe it’s all just rumours. When you try to find this simple and modest cache you will see one of the plans that never happend. So far, at least.
