This geocache has been placed to commemorate the visit of the Leominster Town Ale Taster to a Leominster brewery on May 28th 2016.
The position of Ale Taster, first recorded in 1574, was revived by the town council in 2015, along with that of Bread Weigher and Fish Taster. The contemporary incumbents are provided with a uniform and perform ceremonial duties but do not receive a payment of a gallon of ale at Christmas and Whitsuntide as their predecessors did.
The present Ale Taster was invited to the to undertake his tasting duties, to include his assessment of three Leominster born and brewed cask ales.
The cache is placed a short walk away from the brewery, besides a small brook. It's a peaceful, green enclave tucked away out of sight.
