About the Asbury Park Boardwalk

The mile-long Asbury Park Boardwalk is located 60 miles south of New York City and 90 minutes north of Atlantic City. Once known as the Jersey Shore's Foremost Year-Round Resort, Asbury Park and its boardwalk are in the middle of a resurgence!

A primitive boardwalk was supposedly was built in 1877. In the late 1880s, brush manufacturer James Bradley, known as the father of Asbury Park, opened a saltwater tank filled with sea lions for the amusement of tourists. Rolling chairs took visitors up and down the boardwalk. The Convention Hall was designed by Warren and Wetmore, the firm behind New York's Grand Central Station. In July 1930, the grand opening of the Paramount Theatre featured a show with Ginger Rogers and the Marx Brothers.
