About Umberleigh Station
Umberleigh station is on the Tarka Line between Exeter and Barnstaple, opened in 1854. Like all but three stations on the line (the two passing points and the terminus), it is a request stop, but all trains are timetabled to be able to stop there. It used to be the start of the double-track section that ran all the way up to Barnstaple, but is now a single platform, although the other platform can still be seen.
The cache:
The cache is a 35mm film cannister located a short walk/drive away from the station, near the Umberleigh Gates level crossing. (Note that is it not by the station! However, if Umberleigh were a larger station, it is not as far away from the platforms as it might first seem!) It is an ungated crossing, though the old crossing-keeper's station is still very much in situ, though now a private dwelling. The location has a good view down the line as it heads towards Exeter.
