RVA-Inukshuk Traditional Geocache

Inukshuck cache leads you to a historic site! On January 15, 2010 the Vancouver Olympic Torch Relay came through Devon. The Olympic Torch Relay Celebration Committee applied for a Special Projects Grant from Canadian Heritage. The highlight of the initiative was the decision to link local youth with youth from another region in Canada. The committee partnered with the Town of Inuvik to set up a cultural exchange. The delegation from Devon travelled to Inuvik November 3-7, 2009. In Inuvik, the youth had the opportunity to speak at schools, to learn about the Inuvialuit, Dene and northern lifestyle and cultures. In January a delegation from Inuvik travelled to Devon to participate in our Torch Relay Celebrations. This delegation consisted of accomplished Arctic Games athletes, and an Elder who is one of the highest ranked blank toss jumpers in the world. As a symbol of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games held in Vancouver, the Inukshuk was chosen by the Local Olympic Torch Relay Celebration Committee as a public art legacy for the citizens of Devon to honour the new friendships made with the Town of Inuvik who participated in a cultural exchange program with Devon during the Relay.
