Geocache Description:

At the given coordinates you will find a village sign. It’s not like many of the signs in this series. It’s really, really old and I believe there are plans for it’s restoration. The crest on top reads ‘Invicta’ (meaning undefeated or unconquered) was used in Roma invicta meaning "Unconquered Rome" and is the motto of the county of Kent, England.

Ridley is a place and former civil parish in the county of Kent, England. It lies between Sevenoaks and Chatham, and is within the Sevenoaks local government district. It is part of the Ash-cum-Ridley civil parish.

Ash and Ridley were formerly separate parishes. Both were part of Dartford Rural District and Axstane Hundred. The parish was united with Ash on 1 April 1955, as part of a general revision of boundaries for parishes within Dartford Rural District.

Ridley is situated upon chalk hills, much like that of neighbouring Hartley. The soil is chalky, light and much covered with flints. St. Peter's church stands in the southern part of Ridley, having the parsonage and a lodge nearby. Ridley is 3½ miles SSW of Meopham (railway station) and 7 miles SSW of Gravesend. It has an area of 814 acres, within the bounds of the formerly separate parish.

Ridley is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Redlege and is also recorded elsewhere as Redlegh. The parish consisted of a single manor and a court leet and court baron were held for this manor, the court lodge (Ridley Court) being near the church.

Opposite the sign there is a well and it’s here you need to go to find the information needed to locate the cache. On the well is a brass (I assume) plaque with 3 words, ABC (ignoring any punctuation) and a year, DEFG.

Please apply the numbers to the following:

N51° 21.  A-E     E+G     B+D

E000° 19.  B*F     C-D     B+F

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
