Geocache Description:

STAND BY ME 30th ANNIVERSARY COIN CHALLENGE on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Brownsville's Pioneer Park beginning at 8:30am.

In 1986 Rob Reiner directed the comedy-drama adventure film Stand by Me.  The film starred Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell.  Richard Dreyfuss narrates the film as the grown up Wil Wheaton character and Kiefer Sutherland plays the leader of the local gang.  The film is based on Stephen King’s novella The Body and the title comes from the Ben E. King song of the same name.  The film has become an American coming of age classic telling the story of four boys in a small town in Oregon who hike across the countryside to find the dead body of a missing child.

The film takes place in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Oregon.  In reality, the movie was filmed in Brownsville, Oregon, a small town nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley, with a population of 1,281 according to the 1990 census.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the film so it seemed appropriate to celebrate with a STAND BY ME 30th ANNIVERSARY COIN CHALLENGE.  We have created a special “Stand by Me 30th Anniversary” geocoin to be given away to the first 200 geocachers (one per family) to complete the challenge.  Join us at Brownsville’s Pioneer Park on Saturday, July 23 beginning at 8:30am, close to the Pie Eating Contest venue and receive a challenge passport.  Passports containing real cache and virtual coordinates will be given out one per geocaching family.  Turn in your completed passport and pick up your coin at the posted coordinates until 5:00pm and then join the fun at the celebration.

The challenge will consist of virtual and real caches in the Brownsville area, created especially for this event. The real caches will have a CODE WORD in the container that is required on the passport. The virtuals will have a question that must be answered. You will be required to find 8 of the real geocaches including the multi, GC6E1AW STAND BY ME tour, and 12 of the virtuals, for a total of 20.

The real caches will be published around 8am, the morning of the event, Saturday, July 23, 2016.

After 5:00pm the day of the event and until the coins are gone, they will be available 24/7 at the Pioneer Travelodge (N44 23.281 W123 03.445).

The primary geocache for this event is GC6E1AW STAND BY ME Tour. This geocache will be referenced on all the real geocaches listed on the passport. CURRENT COIN COUNT WILL ALSO BE LISTED ON GC6E1AW. It will also contain the passport following the event. Be sure to "WATCH" it.
