3rd Annual MVG Summertime GADGET Games Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Metro Van Geocaching: It was another great event, made that way in part by the organizers, but mostly by the attendees who showed up with such enthusiasm and exhibited such great teamwork. Thank you all for coming and playing for a third year! We had a blast hosting this one!

Geocache Description:

Once again we invite geocachers to participate in games and contests for geo-athletes of all ages (and skill levels). This year we are highlighting GADGET CACHES.

Come join the FUN on July 16th!

Yes, we're back! This year's Games Event is being held at the Old Orchard Picnic Area in beautiful Campbell Valley Park in Langley. The site has a large picnic shelter, washroom facilities, and a designated parking lot (with more parking available in the public lot nearby.) The park has some wonderful trails with plenty of great geocaches, so plan to spend the whole day. Metro Van Geocachers will supply a drink and snack for everyone, but please bring your own picnic lunch.

We are asking for a small donation to cover costs of the venue and some of the game supplies. Any surplus will be put into the next MVG event.

Athlete registration (a.k.a. sign-in) is at 10 a.m. Opening Ceremonies are at 10:30, followed by the games. Once everyone has had a chance to earn a medal, the event is complete. We anticipate the games will take two to three hours to complete so we'll end around 1 p.m., depending on how much fun everyone is having and how many times they want to play each game. We have the space for the entire day, so feel free to stay and socialize after the games are over.

This year, athletes will work in TEAMS OF SIX PLAYERS. You are welcome to form your own team, and if so, please include your team's name in your Will Attend. (Matching team uniforms are encouraged, but not mandatory.) Don't worry if you plan to come alone or as a team of less than six-- we'll help you complete your team before the games begin. The games are suitable for everyone over the age of about 5 years. Anyone younger is certainly welcome to come and play, but will not be counted as a full team member.

Recommended team composition is 5% speed; 5% agility; 40% mental skill; 50% enthusiasm. Choose your teammates carefullywink

How it Works: The medals will be held in a locked treasure chest. Each team will have one chance to open the chest and choose their medals. (It's not really a competition, but some of the colours are more coveted than others.)

In order to find the information needed to unlock the treasure chest, the teams will work their way through a number of stations consisting of either a "gadget cache" or some sort of competition. A minimum of 10 stations will be required before the team can attempt to open the chest. Teams must stay together, but not everone needs to compete unless they choose to. (That means part of your team can be cheerleaders if they like; most of the games could be completed by just one or two players, but it's more fun if everyone participates.)

Stations include, but are not limited to:

     ~ A FTF Boxcar Race                                                            ~ A u.v. cache

~ a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos Geocachers                ~ an obstacle course

~ a water relay                                                                     ~ an RFIDuino cache

~ a game of Pick Up Geosticks                                            ~ a magnetic maze

     ~ a Macgyver Cache                                                            ~ a fishing hole

Yes, there will be prizes. And did we mention FUN?? See you there!!!
