Geocache Description:

Eight Hundred EightyNineth in the Famous People (FP) Series - Thomas Tracy

Iron Horse Tragedy

Thomas Tracy was a section foreman for the T & P Railroad, and when last seen, he was headed for Edgewood from Wills Point, possibly intoxicated.

As the section house in Edgewood was near the site just east of where they found his body, one can speculate that something happened either when he tried to disembark, or that he was hit while walking back to the section house. Regardless, for whatever reason, he was buried right next to the tracks.

A May 30, 1985 edition of The Edgewood Enterprise has some background, as well as a photo of an earlier headstone, broken. http://edg.stparchive.com/Archive/EDG/EDG05301985P01.php

The cache is a small bison tube, located on the opposite side of the road from the tracks and from Mr. Tracy's plot.

Tracks are active and you do not need to go near them. You don't want to wind up sharing a plot with Mr. Tracy. The road is not heavily traveled and in such bad condition that vehicles go slow. It is safe to just pull over on the side of the road while you search.

The nearby home owner is aware of the geocache and assumes responsibility for a little upkeep on the plot now and then. According to him, a vehicle crashed into the site and took out the bordering ironwork and broke the headstone. He said he did his best to put it back together.

FP cemetery caches are always placed with regards to the location, so please be mindful of your presence here, watch where you step and be respectful of the residents interred here. Please carefully re-hide the container better to maintain the integrity of the cache.
