In early 1878, the James Pearce and John Standifird families settled along the Silver Creek. They were among other Mormon pioneer families to establish the Town of Taylor, named after the third President of the Mormon church. Soon afterward the need of a cemetery arose, being a highly organized people they laid plans for a final resting place that would prove both beautiful and peaceful for generations to come. The Taylor Cemetery was later renamed Reed S. Hatch Memorial Cemetery, a prominent leader in Taylor, for many years.
