Geocache Description:

Although this station is no longer functional there is a good selection of buildings and platforms which still exist but are now in private ownership. This cache celebrates Quy station on the Cambridge to Mildenhall line (Great Eastern Railway) and is a small tube hidden just off a path which used to be the station approach road.

This station opened on 2 June 1884 and is located over a mile away from the village-proper. Passenger services ran until 1962 before the line was entirely closed in 1964. Quy had the dubious honour of being the least used station (not halt) for all of its working life.

A rare image of Quy with its intact canopy from around 1905.

Here's what the station forecourt used to look like from around 1957.

And here's an equivalent view today. The station building has been extended and converted into offices.

Please note that the buildings near GZ are private so I have given some suggested parking. If you are starting there, you need to turn right in front of the cottages and walk along the old station approach, rather than the trackbed behind.

It's possible to walk all the way to Bottisham & Lode station along the old trackbed. Along the way (at the marked waypoint) are the remains of "Francis sidings" used to load locally mined coprolite onto the trains.

More information on the station can be found on the Disused Stations Website and for the SideTracked series visit the SideTracked Website
