Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted location and there is no need to go there.

The city of Portsmouth once had an extensive network of tram lines. These were introduced in 1865 and were initially horse-drawn, but in the early 20th century many of the lines were converted to electric power. The last tram service was closed in 1936.

Very little trace remains of the network today, but there are three places in the city where parts of the old tram tracks are still visible in the middle of roads. You will need to visit all three locations to work out the location of the cache:

At the northernmost tramlines

At the end of the rails is a metal plaque.

How many letters are in the last word on the second line? This is A.

How many letters are in the first word of the first line? This is B.

How many letters are in the last word of the third line? This is C.

At the tramlines nearest the sea

Beside where the tracks end there are three black bollards. These all have a number on them. From top to bottom:

The 7th digit is D.

The 3rd digit is E.

The 1st digit is F.

At the tramlines that run east-west

Half way along the tracks there is a plaque on the wall. When did trams first run on these tracks? The date was GH August 190J.

All three sets of tramlines can be found on Portsea Island.

You will find the cache at N50 (C-G-J)C.DBE W1 F(H-G).EA(H-F). As usual please use extreme caution to avoid being seen, hide the container as best you can and make sure the container’s cap is on tightly when you replace it.

This is my first cache, so feedback is gratefully received. Do let me know in particular if you are aware of any more tram tracks in the city!
