A fun fact about the Town Hall is that it use to be a school house.
Don’t be fooled by the name “Snowflake.” Less than 10-inches of snow fall here each year. In fact, Snowflake did not get its name from climatic conditions, but rather from the fortuitous meeting of William J. Flake with another Mormon leader. When William J. Flake was on his way back to procure the Utah cattle needed to complete the purchase of the ranch, he met Mormon Apostle Erastus Snow who was traveling the Arizona Territory. Elder Snow suggested that they combine their last names and call the new settlement “Snowflake.” Later, Snow and his traveling companions visited Flake’s ranch and helped survey the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints town site.
William J. Flake would be one of the first Arizonans to be elected to the Cowboy Hall of Fame as a cowboy and colonizer.
